At QoMEX, we encourage an open exchange of ideas, freedom of expression, and respectful scientific debates. To facilitate these, we value an environment where people of different backgrounds and cultural and social experiences feel expected, reflected, and respected. QoMEX is dedicated to providing a safe and harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, race, age, culture, language, religion, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, among others. As such, conference participants, including organizers, speakers, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, reviewers and anyone else, are expected to behave professionally, to not engage in any form of discrimination or harassment, and stand up in case of witnessing such a behavior. Discrimination refers to unfair disadvantages, unequal treatment, or degradation of individuals or groups based on their social identity (e.g., gender, race, class, age, etc.). Harassment, as the expression of discrimination that creates a hostile, intimidating or threatening environment, includes the use of abusive, offensive, humiliating or degrading language, intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, sexual imagery, and unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors. Harassment is defined by the target of such behavior and not by the perpetrator or bystanders.
If an on-site or online participant violates these rules, the QoMEX organizing committee may take any action they deem appropriate, ranging from issuance of a warning to the offending individual to expulsion from the conference with no refund, depending on the circumstances. The organizing committee reserves the right to exclude any participant found to be engaging in harassing behavior from participating in any further QoMEX events.
Reporting code of conduct violations
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns relating to harassment, please report to the QoMEX 2025 Ombudspersons (Ester González and Adrián Amor) at report.qomex2025@gmail.com or approach them directly at the conference. Only the Ombudspersons will have access to this account. All reports will be treated confidentially.
What happens after a report is made?
- The Ombudsperson will review your report immediately upon receipt.
- If further details are needed and you are willing to provide them, the Ombudsperson may contact you for clarification.
- The Ombudsperson will present the case to the Response Committee, keeping your identity confidential.
Response Committee
The Response Committee is formed by María Torres-Vega (Diversity Chair), Lea Skorin-Kapov (Steering Committee) and Pablo Pérez (General Chair).
The Response Committee will review each case and take appropriate action:
- If no individual perpetrator can be identified, the committee may issue a general reminder or warning to all attendees.
- If an individual is identified, the committee will vote on one of the following actions:
- Verbal or written warning
- Removal from the conference (without refund)
If removal is proposed, the committee will first inform the individual in writing and offer them an opportunity to present their account in writing. The committee will then confirm or reconsider its decision.
Anti-retaliation policy
QoMEX 2025 strictly prohibits any retaliation against individuals who make a report or participate in an investigation. We are committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
