SS5: QoE-aware Management, Architectures and Models in the Networks of the Future

Description

This special session will address the topic of QoE awareness in the management procedures, architectures and models in the networks of the future. It encompasses novel contributions on: (i) how to leverage existing and new QoE/QoS models along with metrics in the management of novel network architectures, with a particular focus on 5G-advanced/6G solutions; (i) management frameworks and architectures that also exploit the collaboration among different tenants in the delivery of the services.

The Special Session seeks contributions toward more efficient and sustainable end-to-end multimedia and immersive services delivery, improving collaboration and cooperation among diverse ecosystem components and stakeholders (User End Device <> Network <> Transport Protocol <> Content Application Provider), which handle critical influencing factors, and can jointly optimize the end-to-end user QoE and overall resources.

The Special Session also targets novel insights and recommendations on actionable controls and performance metrics that the Content Application Providers (CAPs) and Network Service Providers (NSPs) can use to infer, measure and manage QoE, also jointly through appropriate expose/exchange interfaces for the realization of collaborative approach to to optimize the QoE.

In essence, the Special Session aims to gather beyond state-of-the-art and innovative contributions in the fields of networks and networking aspects that are strongly aligned with QoE optimization and understanding goals. The organization of this Special Session can enrich the QoMEX community in different aspects, like: (i) (further) attracting community members from a field with a large number of representatives, and diverse expertise profiles; (ii) establish inter-disciplinary discussions that may lead to new collaboration opportunities; and (iii) raise awareness of, and highlight, the relevance of QoE when designing network and networking infrastructures meant to effectively deliver (interactive) media services / products.

It is also a core objective of the Special Session to gather a mixed set of contributions from both applied industry knowledge and academic research, demonstrating practical commercial deployments in the field.

Topics of Interest

The following topics and similar, whenever jointly tackled with QoE aspects, are of  of great interest for this special session:

  • Collaboration and cooperation between content application providers, communication service providers and end-user devices.
  • The specification, use and validation of API to exchange information between Content Application Provides and Operators – Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) paradigms and associated enablers.
  • Application of QoE aware management and networking in 5G/6G telecommunication infrastructure.
  • Objective quality metrics, and models / frameworks for QoE management.
  • Use case scenarios and applications with a focus on real-time applications, short/long form videos and immersive services.
  • Improve user experience using QoE models and optimization methodologies.
  • QoE models from cross-layer QoS / resource usage metrics measurement and monitoring.
  • QoE vs energy efficiency from the network perspectives.
  • Design, analysis, and evaluation of network-assisted system architectures.
